I Love Melvin (1952)

"Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor carried their Singin’ in the Rain [also 1952] ebullience into I Love Melvin, a smaller musical but large in entertainment value, and a tidy profit-maker. Don Weis directed them and Una Merkel, Allyn Joslyn, Noreen Corcoran, Richard Anderson, Jim Backus and Barbara Ruick in the George Wells production. Robert Taylor popped up in a dream sequence when Debbie sang the brilliant ‘A Lady Loves’ number staged, like the others, by Robert Alton. Wells scripted Laslo Vadnay’s story.”

- From The MGM Story by John Douglas Eames.

I suppose you could wait around for a couple of years for this to show up on TCM again, but if you don’t have that kind of patience, a beautifully restored DVD of this colourful, exuberant musical is available from Warner Archive as a burn-on-demand release which also includes the reprise of Debbie Reynolds singing ‘A Lady Loves (to Love)’, cut from the theatrical relelase, as an added bonus..
